CASACOR Miami — the largest and most comprehensive architecture, interior and landscaping design exhibition in the americas — annually brings together a renowned roster of creative forces in celebration of innovative design and world-class craftsmanship.
This year, the landmark event returns for its third edition during miami art week at the city’s billion dollar mixed-use landmark in the financial district, brickell city centre. in partnership with swire properties — leading international developers of urban office, hotel and condominium properties — CASACOR Miami is presented from now through december 21, 2019, spotlighting an international mix of established and emerging creatives around the theme of sustainability and urban living.
Set across 25,000 square feet at 700 brickell avenue, visitors to CASACOR miami move from micro-environments to vignettes imagined by international and local architects, artists, interior designers and landscapers. as part of the eclectic exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to meet the participating creative professionals and brands, and engage with innovative design ideas that they can adapt to their own living environments.
'Every year, I am surprised and blown away with the level of creativity and how the designers and curator pour their hearts and souls into the exhibition,’ said maile aguila, senior vice president of residential sales for swire properties inc.‘the artists truly outdo themselves and go above and beyond anything I have ever seen in the interior design world. at swire, we aim to build transformational projects and partner with like-minded brands. CASACOR miami does a beautiful job of curating the space and bringing forward-thinking designers together to deliver more than a typical exhibition; it’s truly a work of art.’
This year curated by lina hargrett, presented by COSENTINO and with the global sponsorship of DECA, creative visionaries including moniomi design, allan malouf, pininfarina, jesus pacheco studio, EDGE collections, alberto salaberri, and léo shehtman return to CASACOR miami.
Evolving from the event’s 2018 showcase, the three-week long exhibition continues to add top-tier designers to its impressive roster, with installations by powerhouse names including michelle haim, sig bergamin, and YODEZEEN. other participating design and architecture firms new to the lineup this year include studio RODA in collaboration with odabashian, cristiana mascarenhas, mr. alex tate design, guimar urbina interiors, B+G design, tamara feldman design, IG workshop, and light on white design studio.
within an individualized setting, each visionary presents a mise en scène of their own signature styles using the latest furnishing, art, color, textile, lighting, home accessory and global culture trends.
upon entering the exhibition, retuning CASACOR favorites ronald alvarez and monica santayana of moniomi design invite visitors into a playful, bold and brilliant microcosm. centering around a stunning marble ping pong table designed by the studio, the space debuts the duo’s ‘altis ornamentum’ collection, which comprises custom furniture and accessories inspired by a contemporary take on ancient greece and sports. walls are patterned with pastel-hued, architecturally-inspired motifs, while striking, basketball-inspired ‘court rugs’ welcome visitors to the show in style.
Further inside, visitors find themselves encompassed in the warm and welcoming space of michelle haim’s interior environment. bathed in a rhythmic, brick milieu and punctuated by ceramic artworks by artist ken gangbar, tan brick benches and a central arboreal installation create a seemingly outdoor plaza indoors, within which visitors can find solace and serenity.
Upstairs, as visitors exit elevators clad in custom wallpaper by EDGE collections, a score of participating designers exhibit their visions for sustainable domestic living. first time CASACOR exhibitor mr. alex TATE design sets the scene for an eclectic retro tableau inspired by the silver screen. 70s vibes inform a ‘tarantino meets kubrick’ setting, with bold stripes running across the ceiling and walls, and unique design treasures — both vintage and contemporary — dotted around the space.
also on the upper level, studio RODA, odabashian, and johanna boccardo present a luxury rug designed in collaboration with the family that commissioned it — exploring new ways of creating family heirlooms. boccardo set up an intervention at odabashian’s headquarters where the clients were asked to freely express themselves on a blank canvas using paint and inks. guided by the design team, the family created an abstract artwork that was recolored by studio RODA to fit the palette of the interior.
meanwhile, tamara feldman designed a room around the word ‘amalgam’ that incorporates a mix of materials and textures. a striking inlaid marble floor puts a luxury twist on the traditional idea of a carpeted floor. nearby, IG workshop, the collaborative duo of female forces sam gallacher and renata vasconez, imagine a sensual space focused on female pleasure. artfully desired sex toys designed by gabriela noelle punctuate a racy room envisioned as a female-designed dwelling for the infamous christian gray.
the plentiful spaces to experience and explore at CASACOR miami present an inspiring haven for experienced design professionals and creative enthusiasts alike. together, the interior and architectural designers offer a taste of minimalism, maximalism, experiential, conceptual, organic, and innovative design thinking. ‘for CASACOR miami 2019, we are aiming to create a hub that brings architecture, landscaping, art and interior design to the forefront of miami art week and beyond,’ says lucio grimaldi, CEO of CASACOR miami. ‘over the past two years, CASACOR miami has broken the mold of the traditional interior design exhibition and bridged the gap between miami beach and inland miami during miami art week.’
